What is your favorite thing about being a student at UGA?
“Being involved with different engineering organizations on campus is one of my favorite things about being a student at UGA. SWE and SHPE have been really inviting and inclusive which as a transfer student I have valued.”
Why did you choose engineering?
“I have a 1972 Volkswagen Super-Beetle that they don’t make all the replacement parts for anymore. Finding innovative solutions to work around this is what sparked my interest in engineering. For example, my defroster currently uses Pringle cans as connection tubes for the air flow.”
What has been the greatest challenge you have faced while at UGA, and how did you overcome it?
“Grasping the material of some of the classes can be quite difficult sometimes but thanks to my tutors, friends, and professors I have been able to overcome this struggle and enjoy my classes.”
What have you learned (or are learning) that has made a difference for you?
“The biggest tool that I learned to use which has helped my life is utilizing the calendar attached to the outlook account everyone here at UGA has. I set it up with different colors for varying activities as an easy way to see and manage my time. I also find it helpful to share the calendar with my friends to coordinate study time.”
What/who has helped you become a successful student here at UGA?
“When I first transferred to UGA I joined the Personal Librarians for Transfer Students. My librarian, Kelsey, was so helpful in showing me around UGA. She helped with the need to know campus knowledge from touring campus to how the bus system worked. Key info to get around and be successful at UGA.”
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
“The seventh floor of the main library due to the amazing view of campus it provides.”
What is your favorite restaurant in Athens?
“Diablos! (Fun fact it originated in Augusta.)”
What has been your favorite class at UGA?
“Dr. Banu’s Fluid Mechanics class, while challenging, was definitely my favorite. It pulled me closer to my peers and had you look at things with a different perspective.”
What has been your best memory at UGA so far?
“Creating Thor’s hammer for Dr. Davis’s Manufacturing and Design Studio class. We got to use a bunch of the tools in the machine shop from plasma cutting, to sheet metal bending, to welding. The finished hammer was a work of art.”
What advice do you have for younger students who wish to pursue engineering?
“Jump into the engineering experience early! I was able to start my internship opportunities early which really helps you hone in on what you want to focus on for the future with your degree.”
How do you hope to impact society with your engineering degree?
“I plan to use my engineering degree to inspire others. Working within the engineering field can be exciting and innovative and I hope to pass that along to others.”
