Please be aware that awards follow different schedules due to the need for voting and/or forwarding of nominees for related UGA-level awards.

Undergraduate Student Awards

Undergraduate Awards for Academic Excellence

Description:

The College of Engineering (CENGR) Honorifics Committee is pleased to call for nominations for the Student Undergraduate Awards for Academic Excellence from each degree program. One senior-level student from each major in the College shall be selected to receive an academic award. The award winner from each major will be recognized at the annual College of Engineering awards banquet. Recipients are eligible for other student awards presented by the college.

Criteria and Other Considerations:

An eligible student shall:

  • Have completed or be currently enrolled in their respective degree’s Senior Capstone Design course
  • Be enrolled in a UGA Engineering degree program for at least two semesters and
  • will be enrolled at the time of the College of Engineering awards banquet
  • Be in good academic standing, with a GPA of at least 3.0
  • Have demonstrated exemplary performance in a majority of upper-level engineering coursework, with recent academic activities weighted more heavily

Nomination Process:

Eligible students with the highest GPA ranking in each major will be auto-nominated. Additional nominations may be submitted by anyone within the college, including faculty, staff and students during the call for nominations time period.

Application:

  • The award application will ask for the following information:
  • Transcript (can be unofficial version)
  • Resume
  • List at least 2 individuals that you would like for us to request support letters from
  • Optional: Any additional support documents

Nominations:

Nominations are accepted from faculty, staff, administrators, and students.

  • Nominees will be contacted to complete the award application.
  • If you would like to self-nominate you can go ahead and complete the application.
  • Applications must be complete by February 27, 2026

Nomination form

The Honorifics Committee will determine the eligibility of all nominees and determine recipients once all applications materials are received. Recipients will be honored at the Celebration of Excellence event on April 8, 2026

Undergraduate Merit Awards for Service, Research and Athletics

Description:

The College of Engineering (CENGR) Honorifics Committee is pleased to call for nominations for the Undergraduate Student Merit Awards for Excellence in Service, Research and Athletics.

Note: These are three (3) distinct award categories: one for Service, one for Research, and one for Athletics. It is possible to have multiple recipients of each award category.

These awards are not limited by class ranking (i.e., seniors are not the only students eligible)

Criteria and Other Considerations:

An eligible student shall:

  • Be enrolled in a CENGR undergraduate degree program at the time of the CENGR awards banquet
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic in and out of the classroom, especially in the specific area of the award (research for research, service for service, athletics for athletics)
  • Be an active participant in good standing in the area specified by the award (i.e., athletics, service and research) as well as in the classroom
  • Exceed expectations in and out of the classroom, as set forth by instructors, professors, staff, and coaches

Staff Awards

Staff Awards

The College of Engineering Staff Awards recognize staff members who exemplify excellence in service, collaboration, and impact. Across all awards, strong nominees consistently demonstrate professionalism, initiative, and a commitment to supporting students, colleagues, and the broader college community. All awards emphasize:

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and exceptional job performance
  • Positive, effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and exceeding expectations
  • Ability to resolve challenges thoughtfully and constructively
  • Initiative, creativity, and a willingness to go above and beyond regular duties

Award Categories:

New Staff Award
Recognizes a recently hired staff member (within their first two years of continuous employment with the college) who has quickly demonstrated outstanding service, adaptability, and commitment to the College of Engineering. Emphasis is placed on initiative, relationship-building, and exceeding expectations early in the role.

Distinguished Staff Award
Honors an established staff member (employed with the college for two or more years) whose sustained performance reflects exceptional service, reliability, and dedication to the college. This award highlights consistent excellence and broad positive impact over time.

Outstanding Student Services Award
Celebrates staff in primarily student-facing roles who make a significant impact on undergraduate and/or graduate student experiences. Key focus areas include student advocacy, satisfaction, conflict resolution, and innovative approaches to supporting student success.

Outstanding Staff Leadership Award
Recognizes staff who demonstrate people-centered leadership and positively influence teams and the wider university community. Emphasis is placed on collaboration, support, teamwork, innovation, and alignment with institutional goals.

Outstanding Staff Mentoring Award
Honors staff who demonstrate exceptional dedication to mentoring and developing others. This award highlights inclusive mentoring practices, long-term impact on mentees, and sustained support that fosters growth, confidence, and skill development.

Continuous Improvement Award
Recognizes staff members who demonstrate a sustained commitment to continuous improvement through process enhancement, innovation, and data-informed decision-making. This award highlights individuals who proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency, effectiveness, quality, or service delivery, and who implement or help implement solutions that create measurable, positive impact for the College of Engineering.

Trailblazer Award

Trailblazer Award

Description:

The College of Engineering Trailblazer Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional resilience, leadership, and innovation while navigating challenges and driving meaningful progress in engineering. This award honors those whose journeys reflect perseverance, initiative, and a strong commitment to advancing excellence and impact within the engineering community and beyond. Trailblazers are individuals who not only excel academically or professionally, but who also inspire others through their leadership, service, and example. Recipients are recognized for making lasting contributions that positively influence peers, colleagues, and the broader community. Through their actions, Trailblazers help shape a forward-thinking, innovative, and impactful future for engineering.

Eligibility:

The Trailblazer Award is available to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the college. Application Materials: Please be prepared to provide your updated resume, list of individuals to contact for letters of support and your transcript if you are a current student.
