GAMA is GNEM’s first non-profit/start-up partner, strengthening collaborative efforts toward electric mobility adoption in Georgia
Athens, GA – The Georgia Network for Electric Mobility (GNEM) is pleased to announce that the Georgia Automotive Manufacturers Association (GAMA) has joined the network as its first non-profit/start-up partner and member. This milestone, reached in December 2024, marks an exciting new chapter for both organizations as they work together to advance electric mobility innovation and adoption in Georgia.
As a key representative of the automotive manufacturing industry in Georgia, GAMA’s membership will significantly enhance GNEM’s ability to collaborate with public and private sector leaders, research institutions, and government agencies. GAMA’s expertise in the automotive industry, mobility policy, and economic development will be vital in helping to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and build a robust EV infrastructure in Georgia.
“We are thrilled to welcome GAMA as our first non-profit/start-up partner,” said Bjorn Birgisson, Executive Director of GNEM. “Their deep knowledge of Georgia’s automotive manufacturing sector, coupled with their focus on forward-looking innovation, makes them an invaluable addition to our network. Together, we will continue to drive Georgia’s leadership in the electric mobility space.”
Strengthening Long-Standing Relationships
This partnership also reinforces the College of Engineering’s and the University of Georgia’s (UGA) long-standing relationship with GAMA, which has spanned over 8 years. Through this collaboration, GAMA’s involvement with GNEM will further strengthen UGA’s commitment to supporting Georgia’s automotive and electric mobility industries, creating new opportunities for research, development, and student engagement.
“We are excited about the continued strengthening of our relationship with GAMA, especially as they join GNEM,” said Dr. Stephan Durham, Interim Dean, UGA College of Engineering. “This partnership provides an excellent platform to expand our work together, connecting UGA’s expertise with GAMA’s extensive network of automotive leaders, and driving Georgia’s success in electric mobility. We first joined GAMA in 2016 and have served on the board since 2018.”
