The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) selected Cheryl Gomillion of the University of Georgia College of Engineering to its inaugural cohort of Emerging Leaders in recognition of her distinguished achievements in medical and biological engineering. She will be formally honored during AIMBE’s Annual Meeting on March 29-31, 2025.
AIMBE’s Emerging Leaders Program aims to increase their engagement with exceptional professionals that are underrepresented in medical and biological engineering (MBE), recognize outstanding rising leaders in MBE, and serve as a pipeline for leaders to AIMBE’s College of Fellows.
Gomillion, associate professor at the college, joined UGA’s faculty in 2015. Her research interests are in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, with a specific emphasis on the following: (1) design and evaluation of biomaterials for therapeutic purposes; (2) application of materials for engineering tissue systems; and (3) advanced engineering strategies for developing in vitro models and culture systems. Dr. Gomillion was awarded an NSF Career Award in 2022 to support her research, education, and outreach efforts.
