The research of Jenna Jambeck, an associate professor in the UGA College of Engineering, is mentioned in a Daily Mail (UK) article on plans to deploy barriers measuring 6,500-feet to help the oceans “clean themselves.” Read more about the project. Jambeck was lead author of a report released earlier this year that estimated between 4.7 million and 12.7 million tons of plastic made its way into the world’s oceans in 2010, with a best estimate of 8 million tons.
