Engineering faculty elected into National Academy of Inventors

Engineering Faculty National Academy of InventorsLeidong Mao, Ph.D.Professor, and Hitesh Handa, Ph.D.Associate Professor, were among three University of Georgia faculty selected as 2023 Senior Members of the National Academy of Inventors.

Dr. Mao, a leading researcher in the field of nanoscale engineering, holds 20 invention disclosures and has been named inventor of five U.S.-issued patents, three of which are licensed to biomedical companies for the development of diagnostic and therapeutic devices.

Dr. Handa’s innovative translational research in biocompatible coatings for medical devices led to the development of materials that can decrease morbidity, mortality and hospitalization costs. He has generated 28 invention disclosures, leading to six issued U.S. patents, many of which are licensed to his startup company, Nytricx.

Recognized for their proven ability to invent and innovate, Mao and Handa, along with Franklin College of Arts & Sciences professor Christine Szymanski, Ph.D., will be formally inducted at the NAI annual meeting in Washington, D.C. this summer.
