An “Engine Room” typically refers to the room that houses the primary machinery powering a ship or other vessel – inspiring the Rowan family to bestow the name upon a computer lab within the Driftmier Engineering Center.
John (AB ’90) and Virginia Rowan dedicated the Engine Room to honor a shared family legacy at UGA, as well as their son Jack’s degree in engineering (BSME ’21).
“For us, the University of Georgia has long been a place of learning and connection, with four of us proud to call it our alma mater,” said the Rowans. “In gratitude, we dedicate the Engine Room as a place of energy, collaboration and creativity, with the hope that it will power the ideas and ambitions of students for generations to come.”
“The Rowan family has been a dedicated partner of the college,” said Dean Alex Orso. “We are grateful to the entire family for their generous support of Engineering at UGA.”
