Brian Staes’s research goals are to establish interdisciplinary methods and provide decision-making support tools to address complex natural-physical-human systems related to natural and man-made hazards, compounded extreme events, and the risk and resilience of community and infrastructure networks towards the betterment of people’s livelihood and societal growth. At UGA, Building Resilient Infrastructure and Adaptive Network Systems (BRIANS) Lab, develops data-driven, simulation-based, and governance-aware tools to understand how transportation and infrastructure systems perform under climate extremes, natural hazards, and operational disruptions.
