Dr. Dong’s research is on converting waste streams (biomass, CO2, municipal solid waste, plastics, etc.) into value-added biofuels and bioproducts (n-butanol, ethanol, isoprenol, acetate, methyl ketones, polyhydroxyalkanoates, etc.). He is developing cost-effective biomass hydrolysis and novel CO2 fixation processes. He also works on metabolic engineering and the fermentation process optimization of several bacteria and yeasts, such as P. putida, Clostridia, C. necator, E. coli, P. pastoris, S. cerevisiae, etc.
