Jim Redmond is the Senior Manager, Mobile Guardian Transport, at Sandia National Laboratories. The organization has responsibility for stewarding a diverse set of experimental and computational capabilities to support a wide range of National Security applications. He has been with the labs for 24 years serving as post-doc, staff, and manager. In prior management roles, Jim advanced technical capabilities for structural mechanics across the length scales, and led a rapid response team in support of the Nuclear Weapons program. As deputy to the Executive Vice President for National Security, he provided technical support for frequent interactions with NNSA, D0D, and congressional stakeholders.

Among his technical contributions, Jim developed control schemes to improve precision manufacturing processes and helped establish R&D programs in microscale dynamics, coupled Structural Acoustics, and Re-entry simulation. He has been privileged to support national emergency response teams, including the NTSB I-35W Bridge Collapse, The Deep Water Horizon Accident, and the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Technical Assessment Team.

Jim holds BS and MS degrees in Aerospace Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering all for North Carolina State University, where he is a member of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Hall of Fame. He has served on engineering department boards at the University of Colorado Boulder, the University of Georgia, and the University of California-San Diego. He is active in the United Way, having led a number of community investment panels.
