Polymer-based nanoparticle-filled composites, encompassing manufacturing, characterization, and practical applications

Kenan Song currently holds the position of Associate Professor at the University of Georgia (UGA). Prior to joining UGA, he achieved tenure at ASU (2017-2023) and conducted a postdoctoral research stint affiliated with the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT. Dr. Song earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University (Boston, MA) in 2014 and obtained his B.S. in Engineering Mechanics in 2010. His primary research focus lies in understanding the intricate relationships between processing, structure, and properties, with a special emphasis on the manufacturing, characterization, simulation, and practical applications of polymer-based nanoparticle-filled composites, with the goal of achieving superior performance in both structural and functional contexts. Dr. Song’s research endeavors are financially supported by prominent entities including the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Defense (DoD) AFOSR & ONR, Binational Science Foundation (BSF), Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), American Chemistry Society (ACS) Petroleum Research Fund (PRF), Department of Health Services (DHS), various philanthropic foundations, and industrial collaborators. Remarkably, Dr. Song has been the recipient of esteemed accolades such as the NSF CAREER Award (2022), ACS PMSE Young Investigator Award (2022), SAMPE North America Young Professionals Emerging Leadership Award (YPELA) (2022), DHS New Investigator Award (NIA), among others. Please check the Song group research website for more details.
