Thomas M. Fischer, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is the Former Director of Engineering and Technical Management, and Chief Engineer, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. As Director, he was responsible for the development and implementation of technical processes and tools, technology transition, talent acquisition, and development of the workforce consisting of 2,000 science, engineering, and engineering technician professionals.
Mr. Fischer entered federal service in 1987 and has served in a broad range of senior engineering and program management positions in acquisition, sustainment, science and technology, and Command organizations. Mr. Fischer’s assignments included serving in senior engineering positions on Air Force and Missile Defense Agency weapon systems including the C-17, F-22, RQ-4 Global Hawk, and Airborne Laser. In his previous position, Mr. Fischer served as the Air Force Research Laboratory Director of Engineering and Technical Management, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Valparaiso University, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton, and an MBA from Wright State University. In addition, Mr. Fischer earned an MS in National Resource Strategy at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy at National Defense University in Washington D.C.
