Yanyu Chen, Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Dr. Yanyu Chen is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Georgia (UGA). He was previously an Associate Professor at Florida State University (FSU) and the University of Louisville (UofL). He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University and conducted postdoctoral research at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

Dr. Chen’s research primarily explores the mechanics and functionalities of architected metamaterials, which enhance the resilience, efficacy, and safety of structural components in defense, energy, biomedical, and civil infrastructure. His work is supported by funding from NSF, ARO, and NASA. He has also received several prestigious awards including the Marie Curie International Fellowship, the NSF EPSCoR Faculty Research Fellowship, and the NASA Faculty Research Travel Award.
