In just five years of racing formula cars, UGA Motorsports has accelerated their way towards becoming a top program.
At the Formula SAE IC event held May 13-16, 2026, at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan, the UGA team placed first in the cost event – a first in club history – and 43rd overall out of 140 teams.
Formula SAE (FSAE) challenges students to conceive, design, manufacture, and compete with small formula-style racing vehicle. The cost event is a comprehensive manufacturing and business analysis of the car, involving a full component cost audit (each accompanied with corresponding technical drawings), a presentation focused on production-oriented solutions given real industry challenges, and an evaluation of the vehicle’s projected total production cost compared to other teams.
A cross-disciplinary program, UGA Motorsports invites students from across all majors to build and operate its activities. Founded in 2014, the team has seen over 1,500 students come through the program. The team created their first FSAE IC (internal combustion engine) design in 2019 and participated in static competition only in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 2021, the team participated in both static and dynamic competitions at the International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan.
