Weekend Guidance
In alignment with the University of Georgia’s most recent Archnews communication, the College of Engineering advises students, faculty, and staff to prepare for a possible University closure or a shift to asynchronous instruction as this weekend’s winter storm develops. Forecasts call for significant ice accumulation, high winds, and rapidly dropping temperatures, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for power outages. Accordingly, all students, faculty, and staff are advised to remain off campus beginning Saturday, January 24, 2026, and continuing until the University officially reopens. University Housing has encouraged students to return home for the weekend when possible.
Driftmier Engineering Center & Boyd Research Center Building Access
Due to inclement weather, the Driftmier Engineering Center & Boyd Research Center will be closed to students on Saturday and Sunday. Unsafe travel conditions, the potential for power outages, and the inability to remotely modify building access systems prevent safe operation of the facility. Safety remains our top priority.
Monday Outlook
As noted in today’s Archnews communication, the University anticipates a possible closure on Monday, January 26, though a final decision has not yet been made. Additional guidance regarding University operations for Monday will be communicated by centralized University teams throughout the weekend. Please continue to monitor your email for updates.
