Global Programs

Faculty-Led Programs

In a faculty-led program, a group of UGA Engineering students travels to an international location to attend courses taught by UGA Engineering faculty. These programs are usually held during the summer and last between two to six weeks. Current faculty-led programs include:

Bioengineering Studies in Germany Munich, Germany

Bioengineering Studies in Munich Germany is a  Maymester program for Chemical, Materials, and Biomedical Engineering students with international experience centered on one of their major electives, BIOE 2100 The Bioengineering Professional Persona. Munich makes for a highly appropriate choice of location as its metropolitan area has a robust bioengineering industry and provides ample opportunity for interaction with bioengineering-related entities: Biogen GmbH, the Munich Institute of Biomedical Engineering, and so on. More fundamentally, the addition of an international experience to an engineering-communication culture centered on the idea of professional personae also makes sense since expanding students’ cultural awareness (especially as this relates to engineering work) is surely significant for their growing notions of professionalism.

Exchange Programs

In the exchange program, students study at an international partner university. These programs are available for an academic semester or academic year. UGA students pay UGA tuition/fees at an in-state rate and living costs abroad. Students can receive transfer credit for courses taken abroad through the transfer credit approval process. Current exchange partners include:

Independent Experiences Abroad

Internships are programs abroad that provide students with temporary on-the-job training in a certain industry. Students typically complete these programs for academic credit and, in some cases, may be paid for their work. Fieldwork, Independent Study or Research involves quantitative and/or qualitative research and instructional hours that, while supervised and initiated by an instructor, feature independent work and self-direction outside of a laboratory, library, or classroom setting.

Internships Abroad

Academic credit, while not required for students to complete internships, is available for engineering undergraduate students looking to receive course credit for their experience. Here are a list of partners that have helped students obtain an international internship:

These options are not the only ways to complete an internship abroad. These third parties have previously collaborated with UGA students. However, students are also encouraged to seek out their own international internship opportunities.

Fieldwork, Independent Study or Research

If you want to do research over the summer and go abroad; consider doing research abroad. Here’s a list of various research and independent research project opportunities available abroad:

Engineering Dual Degree Programs

At the University of Georgia, you have the unique opportunity to distinguish yourself by earning a degree that is far more than the sum of its parts. Go beyond the beaten path with a dual degree in German and Engineering. UGA’s Dual Degree Programs in German allows students to pursue a bachelor’s degree in German and a bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline concurrently and receive two separate diplomas in two distinct fields of study. Graduates of the program will possess not only engineering expertise but valuable international experience and a meaningful inter-cultural interaction. As such, they will be uniquely qualified to succeed in their chosen careers whether at home or abroad.

German + Engineering Dual Degree

Our dual degree program is structured as a five-year plan of study that allows students to concurrently pursue a bachelor’s degree in German and a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

The student’s fourth year will be spent abroad:
