Todd Bridges, the U.S. Army’s Senior Research Scientist for Environmental Science, has joined the University of Georgia College of Engineering as an adjunct faculty member.
Bridges leads a variety of research, development and environmental initiatives for the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He is the National Lead for the Corps of Engineers’ Engineering with Nature® (EWN®) Initiative, a network of research projects, field demonstrations, and communication activities designed to promote sustainable, resilient infrastructure systems. The USACE EWN® Initiative and UGA’s Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) are collaborating on a range of research, demonstration, and communication projects.
“We’re excited and honored to welcome Dr. Bridges to our faculty,” said Donald Leo, dean of the UGA College of Engineering. “As one of our nation’s leading researchers in the field of environmental science, his experience and expertise will strengthen our commitment to interdisciplinary research and to creating a vibrant learning experience for our students.”
Bridges is also the program manager for the Dredging Operations Environmental Research program, one of USACE’s largest civil works research programs. In this role, he directs more than $6 million in research annually. Bridges’ research activities support climate change assessment, environmental modeling, and sediment management technologies. He has published more than 60 journal articles and book chapters and numerous technical reports.
Bridges earned a Ph.D. in biological oceanography from North Carolina State University. He received a master’s degree in biology-zoology and a bachelor’s degree in biology from California State University, Fresno.
